What is a Camera Nowadays?

The camera and photos have changed drastically in my lifetime, and I am very excited to see what the future holds.

On a recent trip to the zoo, I couldn’t help but notice all the different devices that people were using as cameras to take pictures of loved ones and wildlife. I myself was using a
Fujifilm FinePix S2950 14 MP Digital Camera
, but I also saw full blown professional cameras with telephoto lenses, smaller point and shoots, cell phones, and I even saw one person use a tablet PC and another using what appeared to be a Nintendo DS. Will there come a time when what we call a “camera” is a totally different device than what we’ve come to know? Film has already become an endangered species with the advent of digital. In the coming months we should be getting more news on Google’s “Project Glass” which will allow people to take photos using only their voice and a pair of glasses. Apps like Instagram have changed how we take pictures. Now when you are done taking the picture, you can add filters and make all sorts of modifications to the photo before posting it. While  I am on the subject of posting photos, I think websites like Facebook and Twitter have changed the definition of a photo album. No longer do we go to the corner drugstore and have our photos processed, so we can take them home and paste them into books. We just point and click then upload the finished product to the network of our choosing, for all of our friends and family to enjoy and comment on.

I would love to hear what others have to say on this subject.
